Lolo Paint

Getting started

Draw with Apple Pencil or a finger. Pinch with two fingers to zoom, drag with two fingers to pan, and tap ⛶ to fit the page back on screen. Everything autosaves on this iPad; open ‹ Gallery to switch between drawings or start a new one.

Add to Home Screen

In Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen. Lolo Paint then opens full screen like a normal app.

Gestures

Two-finger tap undo · three-finger tap redo · two-finger double-tap fit to screen · four-finger tap hide or show the tools · touch and hold with the pen to pick up a colour from the picture · rest two fingers for half a second for the quick menu (choose its six slots in the menu).

Tools

Pen hard line, size follows pressure. Ink thin-to-thick brush. Marker flat, pressure changes darkness. Pencil and Crayon grainy textures. Watercolour soft wash that builds up where strokes overlap. Custom brush uses the brush you made in Brushes ▾. Airbrush soft spray.

Eraser rubs out on the current layer. Fill taps to flood an area — on a colouring page it fills exactly one section; elsewhere raise Tolerance if colour leaks. Switch Gradient on and drag to blend from the main colour to the second colour. Auto colour paints every section from the current palette in one go; Unfinished tints the sections you haven't done yet.

Eyedropper picks a colour. Line / Rectangle / Ellipse drag to draw. Text tap where the words go, type, then Place. Lasso and Rectangle select limit painting, filling, effects and moving to the selected area — use the bar at the bottom to invert, clear, copy to a layer or deselect. Move drags, pinches and rotates the layer (or just the selection) — tap Apply when done.

Hold the pen still at the end of a long stroke and it snaps to a straight line. Steady smooths wobbly lines.

Brushes

Brushes ▾ lists the built-in brushes and your own. New brush… opens the editor: pick a tip (round, grainy, splatter, square or a photo), then set hardness, spacing, scatter, rotation and how much pressure changes size and opacity. The preview stroke updates as you go.

Colours & palettes

Tap the big circle for the colour wheel, hex code, harmony suggestions and recent colours. The small circle is the second colour (used by gradient fills) — tap it to swap. The floating palette can be dragged anywhere by its ⋮⋮ grip and collapsed with the chevron. Tap + to add the current colour, Edit to remove chips, and the palette name to switch or save palettes. The palette in use is saved with each drawing.

Layers

Tap the layers icon. Each layer has opacity, a blend mode (Multiply is great for shading), Lock alpha (paint only where there is already paint), Locked (no changes at all) and Clip below (only shows where the layer underneath has paint — perfect for shading). Merge Down flattens a layer into the one below.

Colouring pages

Menu → Colouring Templates has 38 pages in five groups. Menu → Import Line Art turns a photo or scan of any line drawing into a page: adjust the threshold until the lines are clean, then New Page. Outlines sit on a locked Lines layer and you paint underneath, so you can never spoil them. Detect Sections works on any layer of your own line art too.

Effects & reference

Menu → Layer Effects: blur, sharpen, glow, brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, posterize, pixelate, grain, greyscale, sepia, invert — live preview, then Apply. Reference Window floats a photo (or a live view of your own canvas) that you can drag and resize while you draw.

Time-lapse

Every drawing quietly records a frame after each stroke. Menu → Replay Time-lapse plays it back; touch and hold any frame to save it to Photos. Clear the recording from the same screen.

Layout

The chevron on the bottom bar tucks the sliders away; the ⇕ button in the top bar (or a four-finger tap) hides everything for a clean canvas. Mirror Left–Right or Top–Bottom draws symmetrically. Flip View mirrors the picture to check proportions. Rotate with Two Fingers turns the page like paper.

Export & backup

Menu → Export PNG shows the finished picture: touch and hold it and choose Save to Photos (turn off the background for a transparent PNG). Back Up Gallery saves every drawing, palette and brush as one file to Files or iCloud Drive; Restore from Backup brings them back on any iPad.
